Why Yoga for Menopause

and Midlife?

Menopause Yoga

All women will go through it at some point yet how prepared are we for what is to come?

I know I wasn't! All I knew were anecdotes of hot flushes (often now referred to as hot flashes), mood swings and disturbed sleep.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing... often women only realise they're peri-menopausal or even menopausal retrospectively having endured months of symptoms they didn't realise were connected to hormonal changes.

​

Whilst some women experience only mild and manageable changes during this transition and experience a new burst of energy, drive and creativity fairly soon after menopause, how many women approaching menopause start to feel invisible or written off? Their mood swings, forgetfulness and loss of libido written off as meaning she's obviously past it? Yet, for women it can be scary to go through this and, at the same time, there can be physical changes which affect self-esteem. Symptoms are sometimes misdiagnosed and treated as depression, but anti-depressants don't help hormonal imbalances; it is the fall or variability in oestrogen levels which causes the majority of menopause symptoms. Often, menopause coincides with other big life events like children leaving home or caring for elderly parents and the demands put upon women at home and at work result in them putting their own very real needs last.

My Yoga for Menopause and Midlife workshops and classes allow small groups of women the time and a safe, nurturing, supportive space to talk about how menopause is affecting them, whilst also providing a toolkit of strategies to help manage issues such as anxiety, sleep, self-esteem and irritability. Women helping women ♡.  

 

Whilst women may share their experiences of nutrition, lifestyle changes and medication, I will not be advising on any of these but can provide information on where to find out more.

You do not need to have yoga experience to attend, just be at some stage of this transition.

3-hour Yoga for Menopause Workshops 

Movement and breathwork for women in peri-menopause, menopause or post-menopause.

No need to have previous yoga experience.

​​

Workshops include:

- discussion and sharing experiences in a women's circle

- an accessible themed yoga practice

breathing practices relating to the theme

- meditation

- journalling 

​

You will need: a yoga mat, a blanket and a strap (or a tie or belt).
